WHAT IS THE NEURO FIT COURSE?
The Neuro Fit Digital Course provides therapists with the knowledge and skill of strength and conditioning and how to implement it into the field of neurorehabilitation. The course centres around the ethos that you can be fit and strong with a neuro condition.
- The key concepts are understanding the fundamental principles of movement to allow appropriate exercise selection.
- Understanding and applying specific exercise prescription for the characteristics that you are working ie endurance, hypertrophy, strength, and power.
- Lacing it all with fun!
The course includes 9 hours of modular learning based on three areas of the Neuro Fit programme.
MODULE 1 : FUNCTIONAL TRAINING
Bob Wood introduces us to a different model of studying movement. He introduces the fundamental movement principles namely gravity, ground reaction and momentum. He describes how our bodies have created systems of control through three planes to allow efficient movement. This section introduces us to a system of assessment, exercise selection and exercise progression around the key topic of locomotion. The Neuro Fit team then demonstrate through six video case studies how these principles can be applied into the neurological world.
MODULE 2 : EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION
Natalie Opoku challenges our understanding in relation to the definition of Hypertrophy, muscle endurance, strength and power. She talks us through the evidence base behind the characteristics of fitness training. Assists in developing our knowledge of physiological responses to training and its application in treatment sessions and when designing home programmes and exercise classes. The Neuro Fit team then demonstrate through a gladiator type challenge and video case study how to fitness output test and apply these principles in the neuro world.
MODULE 3 : PLAY
Nikki Penny and Helen Weaver introduce the topic of play. Its importance to physical, mental and social wellbeing, and its integral part in human development. They talk about how introducing more play into their treatment sessions improved results but also started to shape their workplace and organically develop aclinic community. They open up the questions about what kind of player you are and the different ways of beginning to identify what kind of players your clients are.
